Sharmila Singh is of counsel to Cypress LLP in the firm’s family law practice. With over 25 years of family law experience, Sharmila has worked extensively with complex, highly contested cases involving custody, visitation, and support disputes, as well as property division in high-net-worth cases. Sharmila is adept at handling the intricate and emotionally fraught aspects of custody battles and strives to keep the interests of the children front and center. Sharmila’s primary goal is to achieve results without resorting to costly litigation. When cases do require litigation, Sharmila is a skilled advocate having successfully tried custody, support, and asset disputes, restraining orders, and international child abduction cases. Sharmila also drafts and negotiates pre and post marital settlement agreements.

Sharmila has also completed extensive mediation training and mediates and consults with clients in the mediation process. Since 2013, she has volunteered as a daily settlement officer with the Los Angeles Superior Court where she assists litigants in resolving their family law cases.
Sharmila began her legal career assisting victims of domestic violence as a student attorney in the Women and the Law Clinic at American University. She volunteers with various organizations including Sahara, an organization that assists the South Asian community.
Sharmila was born in Georgetown, Guyana, grew up in New York City, and enjoys living in the suburbs of Los Angeles with her two sons and husband.
